New Fish Room - 11.5 X 6.5

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great setup so far! I really want to do something similar when I move.

One suggestion if you're going for sponge filters as your sole source of filtration is to always use two (or more! :)) per tank, so you can clean one at a time and not worry about disrupting a cycle. Also, if one gets disconnected for some reason you will have a back up.

I am. I am running 2 - Hydro Pro 3's per tank. There will be one breeding group per tank. 4-6 fish total.

hey u should go bare bottom tanks, but what you should do is paint the bottom of the tank glass with textured sand paint to make it look like there is a sand bottom

I am still debating this.. Your suggestion seems like a great compromise. I know bare bottom tanks are easier maintenance but I love watching the males build breeding beds. I am breeding because it comes with the turf but the intent of the room is not neccesarily only for breeding.

Here are a few shots from last night & today...

32 X 12 Acrylic that I am building is going here. Guy with the 40 BR skipped out on the deal, so I am one short.

More from today. All of the supports for the 40's & the reservoir are done. Went ahead & set up the 20's for some fry tanks & fry.

Looks great. Are you not going to add some kind of panelling tocover up the insulation. Some drywall, plywood maybe? It will make the fish room look a whole lot better and less like a spaceship! Also it will make it more insulated.

Not sure if you mentioned it already, but what are you doing for lighting?

Can't wait to see the end product.

No... The stuff you see in aluminized bubble wrap, "Reflectix". It is totally resistent to moisture.. Paneling & sheet rock are not. You are right, it does have a weird sci-fi feel. ;)

Strip lights on the lighting... Thanks!

Your really setting up this room nice! Looks like you put a lot of thought into it. I'm taking notes :)

Thanks.. For the most part - yes, a lot of planning was involved.

Some was unfortunately "from the hip"... More photos in a few. I got all of the tanks filled & the air lines ran... Pulled a bunch of substrate from my 180 & put it in each tank. Hopefully the cycling won't be stubborn...

I'm planning to re-do my fish room. After having it up for two+ years I want to pull everything out and start over. Some of the stuff I want to do:
- 2" PVC drain line along the perimeter/floor of the room.
- Water supply along the perimeter/top of the room.
- Sky lights
Are you planning a drain system for your tanks? With a refill water supply? If so, I would love some details? LOL
