  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No luck on the fry's yet. Female is currently seperated for a bit of beefing up before I try again. I noticed she's been having a hard time getting food and the second attempt yeilded very little eggs. Fingers crossed.

Just a quick update and a question or two:

So far Frankie hasn't changed much. He is now around 7in and is starting to fill in more. I don't think he will have a monster kok. Betty P (blood parrot) is now in a 40 gal hex and since then his kok did pop a little. He shares it with a RT shortbody 2.5in who is too hard to photograph. Hopefully it peels, fingers crossed. Color is about the same, it is a little washed out at the time of the photos as well as overexposure.

Question
A few days ago I noticed him flashing, so I did a partial water change and tested the water. Everything within parameters. He seems to have a itch on his chin under his eyes. I treated with Clout, and he stopped flashing 2 days ago but today I caught him flashing on the gravel again. Suggestions?

Was going to treat with clout in a 20gal tomorrow but would rather not move him. Thinking it is some external parasite I just can't see, hopefully not inside the gills under cheek.
Suggestions?

Does gravel have anything to do with this? In the case it is some type of cootie, does the gravel act as breeding ground for parasites? I do a 10% water change once a week and it is really clean in there. Aged water as top off 10gal.

Sidenote: I was trying to test breed him with a proven kampha, who he scaled. I felt really bad. She is recovering.

Thanks for any replys in advance. This hobby engulfs me sometimes, always something new and intresting to learn.

He's beautiful. I don't know too much about flowerhorns, do they always change colors that much? Every time you've posted a picture he's been different.

Aussie, I just got lucky and found one with her tube down. She is also aroud 7 in.

Lissa, there is a type that fades. It changes color from juvinile to adult. I'm no expert but its a small percentage of the babies. This is pretty much his colors now. Sometimes lighter or darker on mood.

Any ideas on the flashing?

I've been searching for a female for Frankie and was lucky to find a Tailong strain from ModsUSA. Thanks mods. This is just a little introduction.

She has a decent size kok, fully faded and has a Rose red color.

Here is Frankie:

Sidenote: Increased water changes to 5gals 2xweekly. Aged water. Also, Frankie stopped flashing a few days ago. Clout helped as well as aquarium salt.
