New flowerhorn isn't eating NLS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmm I have a bottle of the jumbo with garlic extract, not too sure the size of it but ill give it a try tomorrow morning and see how it works haha. I'll update when I do
It's 6mm sinking, I used to feed that one but couldn't find 5lb buckets anywhere last month so I switched to the 10mm mega formula.

I heard the 5lb buckets are the way to go haha. Also heard one bucket lasts forever, couldnt get myself to buy one as my fish dont eat it :/

To the OP, which formula are u currently feeding and how big is your fh? My 10" fh prefers floating pellets so I feed him the 4.5mm jumbo fish formula. He makes a mess chewing anything bigger than that but accepts the 3mm sinking lrg fish formula if I feed slowly. If I drop a handful in he picks off a few on the way down and ignores anything that hits the sand.

My FH is about 1.5" now, and I'm feeding him NLS 1mm cichlid formula.

NOPE haha! Didnt work :/ now there's a fist full of nls in the gravel haha xD. Just looked at it on the way down haha. Oh well i'll do a w/c soon. Guess 5 years of hikari made the jag a pro hikari kinda gal.

Well, just bought some Hikari stable baby pellets today and he didn't eat those either. NLS/Hikari a no-go, but he still jumps at the freeze-dried krill.

Any ideas?

Well if hes a fry I would just feed him w/e he eats currently. Hes growing and needs all the food he can get, later on when hes a bit larger and stockier it'll be time to starve him and switch from frozen to pellets.

Fish don't like NLS usually. I had to starve them to get them to eat it. Some fish would rather starve.

Yeah, he's been eating the freeze dried krill, but it looks like the pellets hell either eat after theyve been in the water for 30 mins or not touch them at all.

I did notice he's actually about 1 3/4", up 3/4" in 2 weeks so I'm really close to the common inch per month flowerhorns are used to, so I'll just keep up with the freeze dried krill and throwing pellets in until he eats them.

I have a 5lb bucket of small nls that none of my adult fish will touch but my small grow outs and fry eat it because they eat anything.
Lots of cichlids don't like nls but they all like omega one super color cichlid pellets. That stuff is redder in color and sinks slowly compared to nls.

there isnt a neeed to have your fish eat NLS! There are plenty of good/better ways to feed your fish. Seem like fish dont like them because they are not real fish food or something like that. But When my Syn and Carpintis got used to nls they eat them all up NP. But make water dirty
