New FX5 delivered yesterday and....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am actually thinking about hooking this up to a reef-flo Dart pump I have that runs my circulation. I was going to get a Ocean Clear to do this, but after I found this FX5 on Amazon for $210 I decided to go with it. I haven't seen them this cheap in a while. I hope I made the right choice as I was going to get 2 ocean clears and hook them up with one charcoal and one filtering. Mine is going to be here Thursday so I will let hopefully get it installed and running that day. http://www.amazon.com/Fluval-FX5-Ex...O2PK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326174899&sr=8-1

ask any FX5 owner they'll tell you nothing but good things. to this day i have yet to hear any negative comments

lookin to get me one here soon as my taxes come in.. that and upgade my sumps pump to a bigger model. i was looking at the fx5 at my lfs and i agree its truly bigger then most would think!

I paid the same through Amazon. I think you will be shocked when you open the box, I know I was.

I learned one valuable lesson with the FX5. After you snap all 8 latches in place, make sure to hand tighten them all....TIGHT. I didn't, and you would be amazed at how much water flows out when your one inch intake/outlets turn into syphons. I probably dumped close to three gallons of water in less than 10 seconds

Thanks for the input. I plan to tear my tank down today and give it a cleaning like it hasn't had in a year. Does anyone have a material recomendation they can put out. I know with the 3 layers you can stack them how you want. Just wondered if anyone had tested it and has one that works best.

Man you want to see water, get you a reeflo dart and hook it up in a smaller tank! It makes an awesome current in my 220g tank. I actually have 2 reeflo hammerheads for an unfinished 350g project. I hooked one up in my pool just to see what it would do and the 2" outlet would spray water 10'. Before I went to the pool I started it in a 5 gallon bucket and it sucked it dry in maybe 2 seconds. It was awesome. I can't wait to getthat tank hook up and going. Have to wait until I get a bigger house. We plan to build in a few years and I plan to make a fish room all concrete floors with a 2" rise around it with a drain. Spills will be a cinch to clean up then. My wife hates my tanks as I have ruined at least $10K worth of hard wood floors in our front room.

I am running all Matrix biomedia in the trays. After doing quite a bit of reading, it was widely considered the best out there. I bought two liters of it, which actually isn't quite enough. I think you would be good with 4.

I'm still unsure how to use the drain function on the filter, and it's a real pain to get it out of the stand when it's full. I disconnected the in/outs and used my python to suck much of the water out before removing from the stand.

Yeah I wondered how easily that drain was going to work. Go YouTube fx5 setup there is a 2 part video that was really good. It makes it look easy.

Yeah, that looks pretty simple. I suppose I should have taken the time to watch the instructional dvd it came with..... But what fun is that?
