New gas coming to your gas station; PAY ATTENTION... don't use it

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The funny part about the E85 (and others) is they tell you how much cheaper it is to buy per gallon. They TOTALLY forget to tell you that your MPG will suffer and it actually is MORE expensive to use in the long run to the increased amount your car will consume.

I looked at running my last blower car on E85, but the added fuel upgrades and cost for my use wasn't worth it at all. I'll keep burning dinosaurs for now.

Only time I used e85 was in a chevy malibu. Price was about a third and I got less than half the mpg. If I had to do any upgrades to run it, it would not have saved anything. Add in that 14g or whatever size gas tank isnt going to get you far and I wouldnt bother. I wouldnt spend the .74 either for non ethanol either, maybe if it were 93 octane since thats the only fuel that doesnt make my rx8 backfire

Did a little experiment that I thought was worth sharing. In my work car I normally run 87 octane that has 10% ethanol. It costs me $.141 per mile. Since my local gas station has 91 non ethanol, I decided to fill up with that last week. Although it cost $.40 more a gallon, it ended up costing me $.138 per mile. So $.40 more a gallon actually saves me (a little) $$ in the long run, and I'm not running ethanol through my car.

thanks that is very good to hear;)

Good experiment! Margin is small enough there could have been other factors but good info. I know I got the best mpg ever out of ethanol free gas... but it was vp race fuel at 7 bucks a gallon. Def not cost savings but idled smoother n made my exhaust smell good and got 3 mpg more than I ever have (even though I was more "spirited" in my driving on that tank)

Benefits of ethanol is that it burns cooler and has higher octane rating. But your engine will burn more so it is almost a wash. You also will have to change the tune in your engine from switching from gas to E85. A lot of turbo cars are running e85 because it has higher octane rating so they can run more boost and make more power safely than gas without detonation.
