New goonch cat

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Finally! Hahaha that's a good lookin ruti bro!

Btw. You should let them know there's no such thing as an Indian dwarf goonch

Thanks. I told him. It all changes so much with them now anyway, who knows we may find one down the line since so little is known on them.

Any care tips that one might have I'm having a hard time finding proper information. I have a good idea but anything would be additional help.

Made it a rocky corner with a 240gph power head.

I honestly
He looks like he'll make it. but damn I rather have the rutilus.

I honestly think it is a rutilus. I didn't see any difference in the two. It was kinda why I picked the one I did. Mine is eating nightcrawler chunks and bloodworms.

It'll be nice if my guy was a rutilus but he looks like a yarrelli to me. My guys been kinda active and just found him swimming against the wave makers. I'll check later to see if he ate any food. Looks like your guy is adjusting well.

The more I look at him I'm starting to thing he's actually a yarelli (LLG) the lowland giant whichll grow massive! Have you checked out Rob's sticky in the catfish section? It's the best write up you will find anywhere on how to properly care and ID these guys. The only thing not covered is feeding but this is really basic. I would stop feeding the bloodworms bc you will need to feed it A LOT just to sustain him. The only goonch I kept that I fed bloodworms was 1.5" all the others I switched over to dead foods and pellets. Much easier and much healthier in the long run. Looks like you have a nice spot for him with high flow. Once he discovers that he may sit there all day and night but it depends on the fish itself. I have 2 HLG's and one will sit in front of the flow 24/7 whereas the other will sit in front occasionally but spends most of its time in a corner with extremely low flow. Hope that helps

Cool. Mine will go from spot to spot and be in the low flow and then the high flow. This morning I found him in the high flow and I offered him a crawler. He didn't eat it but did eat some bloodworms. Will be cool to see them grow and the differences between them.

Thanks, it does. I have been feeding bloodworms for two reasons. One it is in a 40 breeder right now with a black ghost knife, guramis, and a Roseline shark. The 40breeder I was going to put it in I felt it was to small to be with the achara cat I have in there. I ain't about to have it get eaten. Once that 40breeders fish can go in the 180gal I'll move it over there and work more on converting it. I am still going to try to get it eating other things now but bloodworms will be constantly available. The second is I wanted to be sure it got eating. It had a bit of a sunken belly but not to bad. I wanted to get it stable then start working toward other foods. Just like I have with my other cats and rays I have had/have.

I did read robs post several times. The temps I don't recall seeing there or growth rates.

Oh also while I am typing this on my phone I am watching its tank. I just noticed a guramis with a head wound like a shark attack! Looks like it tried to eat my guramis already! Thought they were to big to eat but that answers that..ha-ha if I loose a fish or two before it can be moved that is fine. Infact I kinda planned on it, just thought it would have been a bit longer before it started.lol

Also I'll keep posting pics. Either way on the sp is cool with me. I would hope it is the rutilus as I thought it looked like, but would be just as happy with a southern yarreli
