Slow growers and even slower pairing and breeders. Have patience. It will probably be 3 years before pairing and breedings. If they breed. Fishspeaker just had a batch of fry several months ago. That is where Ken Davis got his to sell on fishfarm.

sweet, hopefully my geo's and the HP's grow at the same rate.

Yeah, there is a great article on them by Wayne Leibel in the October '94 issue of Cichlid News I dug out. The article seems to confirm sexual maturity may take upwards of 3-5 years. Cool fish.

you got these for $15? not to throw a monkey wrench into things but fishfarm aka ken was selling these for $10 if i am not wrong...
;)
they are great fish, have fun with them

Wow...That sounds like a great price for these guys. They seem to go for a lot more don't they?

well when you see a lot of people selling a 10" fish for $100++ it has taken them around 2 years to get them to that size ;)
so if you really think about it, the small size at that price - is it such a steal? ;) haha
not ripping on anyone here - it's just the math i do in my head when i think of the time, investment, care etc. that's gone into getting them up to that size.
this fish is worth every penny regardless of whatever size you get them at... i had 4 and i regret selling those beauties...
