Slow growers and even slower pairing and breeders. Have patience. It will probably be 3 years before pairing and breedings. If they breed. Fishspeaker just had a batch of fry several months ago. That is where Ken Davis got his to sell on fishfarm.

Yeah, there is a great article on them by Wayne Leibel in the October '94 issue of Cichlid News I dug out. The article seems to confirm sexual maturity may take upwards of 3-5 years. Cool fish.

you got these for $15? not to throw a monkey wrench into things but fishfarm aka ken was selling these for $10 if i am not wrong...

they are great fish, have fun with them

well when you see a lot of people selling a 10" fish for $100++ it has taken them around 2 years to get them to that size
so if you really think about it, the small size at that price - is it such a steal? haha
not ripping on anyone here - it's just the math i do in my head when i think of the time, investment, care etc. that's gone into getting them up to that size.
this fish is worth every penny regardless of whatever size you get them at... i had 4 and i regret selling those beauties...
