These are a couple pics of the grass pickeral (Esox americanus vermiculatus) they max out at 15 1/2" but seldom get that big, 12" is more usual. One pic is from fishbase, the other is from Jonah's aquarium where they are available on a seasonal basis. They are not very limber fish but great, quick, stalk and pounce hunters. the absolute minimum I would keep an adult in is a 50g (wide) tank, 48"x18"x13",. I think that is on the small size and you would never see it at it's best. A well planted tank, 72"x24"x17" (125g wide) would be much better as you would be able to see it hunt and keep several other fairly large fish as well.

No, a large redfin pikeral can reach at most 16" and are usually smaller, bluegill are full bodied fish that can exceed 12" and get to 4 1/2 pounds though 1 lb is more common.
A full grown redfin could possibly take an 8" bluegill but it is unlikely, it could eat an 8" chub easily due to the body shape. This redfin pic is by RJ. Goldstein.

Man those are some cool fish, I'd consider them if I can't catch my own baby northern this spring/summer......

K, Im kinda a crazy redneck anyway, but this proves it, that baby northern is the cutest thing ive ever seen! That pretty much does it, i want a few for my 135, so they get to big, grill em butter em and serve with a rolling rock

Would a Red Fin Pike be able to eat a large bluegill?

Guppy already addresed this but it is important to keep in mind that bluegill are aggresive fish, they may kill a redfin.
