thanks me too. Yeah i got the temps up and only feeding sprulina at the moment. water changes every third day. The larger pair kinda grazes for food, they dont get frenzy happy at feeding time. And the smaller pair eat themselves sick if i let them:) Well the ones i got from you, the smallest one didnt make it 3 days with all of them. the others are laid to rest by gravedigger. and since i couldnt find any females big enough for him and he killed off the ones i was selling so i sold him to a friend who will have better luck finding him a mate. and at the same time i found a couple smaller pairs so i snagged them up and they are doing great so far. only a lil aggression with smaller pair.

they look sweet just be careful with bloat obviously

mine had just spawned and then died from bloat 3 days later while I was on vacation..

Dude that really sucks. Haitiensis are very hard on ones nerves.:swear:
I wish you the best of luck in the future.

Sweet little fish!
Youll get to watch them grow to something real nasty! :grinno:
Id like to have one someday...
Ive read lots about Odos getting bloat from feeding at young age.
I havent really heard anyone say raising their Odo was easy.
Im sure someone has with ease but its like bloat isnt even preventable no matter how you feed young.
Is that really true?

Well, I have never been able to bring them back once they have bloat. I have caught it once in the early stages and saved it, but couldnt save it from the male. So far its easier to set up the tank in a mellow spot and have a tank large enough that you wont have to move them till they reach 4-5". And getting them there takes work. I know of some people who has done it fairly easy. but for me it has been a huge learning curve on raising these and beani compared to hardier cichlids.

They look real nice man. Let me ask you a question at what temp are you keeping these guys? I read something interesting to me lately where someone stated, that these guys and beani do better in water with like 76 as the temp. Just curious if you had ever heard or experienced the same?

I read not to long ago in a thread entitled 'haitiensis bloat protection program' that younglings should be kept around 85 degrees F. Apparently young wild haits stay close to shore where the water is real warm. I've been keeping my two around 80 degrees F and they seem to be doing fine. I only have one question which is what are the signs of bloat?
