The Freshwater specie of Stingray that most state is hardy and not to difficult to care for is the Motoro. I definitely wouldn't use the term easy for any Ray species. Motoro are common atleast in my area.

Hi there. Typically a motoro would be the best starter ray as they are very hardy. They are also typically the most affordable usually about 100-300 cad but that all depends on your area and who you know. Where about a in Canada are you?

if money is an issue rays are not a great idea tbh. They are an expensive addiction to have, I mean fish to keep ?. There are always ways that you can do things on a budget though. So don’t give up if you really want to keep them

a typical ray set up would need to be 8x4x2’ minimum for most rays. Some will even out grow this size of tank, but it will take years. I do know lots of people that have rays in smaller set ups then they just trade or sell the rays once they get a certain size. I wouldn’t suggest anything less than a 180g with a 6x2x2’ even with smaller rays. I have 3 6” rays in a tank that size and I have to change between 75-150% water on a weekly basis to keep my water in good condition. (I have bigger tanks lined up after I move).

then your next challenge is big filtration. The bigger the better. Typically sump or better is always recommended, and any ray guy will tell you a drip is almost mandatory for adult rays. They produce huge amounts of ammonia, and they are super sensitive to this waste byproduct and can succumb to it quite quickly.

I was wondering how common are scobina stingrays? I am still definitely looking in to Motors!
