so i got that 180 with the cracked back.... i have been trying to figure out a way to fix it good.. i just had the idea.. since the crack is very close to the corner could i just box the corner off lika an overflow and reseal the crack then i can drill a hole in the side right at the bottom run a bulkhead and i will have a corner overflow.. this would take alot of the pressure off of the glass since there isnt as much water in the overflow.... does this make sense??? and would it work????

sounds like a plan

I still think the stress on the rest of the glass may make it give. That is a pretty tall tank isnt it?

the weight of 180 gallons of water is still going to be pushing on that crack no matter what... By boxing the corner of the tank your reducing the chance of it leaking, your not reducing the pressure on that crack at all though... I think you're going to just need to replace that entire back piece... I don't see a way around it

:iagree:

Rottbo... Can you give up a pic of it?

Is the crack kinda like a broken corner?

Is it finished cracking (end to end)?

If you can completely encompass the crack it could be made to work.

You may have to redistribute the pressure by covering the cracked area with glass from the inside. And you may have to reinforce the top edge too if it's very long or deep.

How about using a windshield repair kit to fix the crack, then take a piece of glass that is 2-3in larger than the area covered by the crack and seal it to the tank glass over the cracked area with silicone from the inside and clamp it lightly till silicone is cured.

Make sense? :D
