The African Tiger Scats live in freshwater.
Really? I'll have to research that. I was under the impression that all Scats required an increased amount of salinity as they matured until they reached adulthood where full saltwater would be required. Thanks for the info. I'll read more about this later on. Maybe I can keep Scats after all.

A vendor here mentioned that there were two races of the tiger scat and one of them are fully freshwater while the other is brackish.

Im pretty sure these were collected from the same area that lake tang cichlids came from. I love scats but didnt want to deal w/ brackish water either and I read that these were completely freshwater so i had to get some.

What's the specific name of the Scats that you have? I want to read more about this variety. Everything that I've read, before and after seeing this thread, says that all Scats require marine conditions as adults. Searching African Tiger Scats yielded the same results. Like I stated previously I am interested in keeping Scats but I won't be able to provide a full saltwater set-up once it matures. If there is a freshwater species I would like to pick one up.

how much did they cost, if you don't mind me asking? you could pm me too. i've only seen em for sale locally once, for $150 each.

p.s. they look awesome, especially in a group!

They are called Scatophagus tetracanthus or sometimes african river scats..from my understanding they are fine for life in freshwater.
Thanks ScatMan pm sent
