New Jags only eat live food!

THANK U!! :D , yes even at 2.5 inches they are sweet looking but that texas cichlid better watch out when the jag's get bettween 4 to 6'' 's they( managuense ) mature and if u have a male/ female pair ..ooffffpha for the texas cichlid ,unless the texas is a female then it should be no problem.. think about a divider when this happen's or a larger tank ..:D

My pike was the same way when i first got him. I guess his previous owner liked to watch him hunt (I know i do). However I am unwilling to feed live food everyday. He wouldnt take frozen or freeze dried foods either. I just kept with my normal feeding routine w/o the normal once a week live meal. He soon learned when the other fish go to the surface they were eating. He now strikes at pellets, freeze dried and frozen foods, though he doesnt care for flakes still (cant have everything;) ).

Off the subject that is a beautiful Jag. I have a small 1 too I hope he grows to be as beautiful as some of the jags i have seen here. here he is:
 
you could also try the fishing line method, it has worked for me. Loosly tie a peice of shirmp (small) to a fishing line and make it appear to be "live". Once they get a taste they'll gladly take it from there. I've had it work on a few large fish that had nothing but worms and feeders.
