I was looking for a light for my 5g desk tank, and when browsing an LFS, I couldn't believe what I saw swimming in a tank full of big long-fin senegals.

This is one of those 'rare' bichirs:

Not much bigger than the old school lettuce clip:

Wrong on all of those nubs, this is a baby retropinnis bichir, wild caught

I agree, one of my top favorites too and this one already is showing a lot of green I can't wait to see it settled in.

Retropinnis is considered an uncommon or 'rare' species, they're all wild caught still, and rarely seen in an LFS.

I do feel very lucky I got it because I've been looking for one, and I found it at a store just up the street from this member:

This is a retropinnis. Congrats on feeling so 100% certain in your lack of solid ability to identify species in polypterids, that you made that post.
