New Mahseer Pickups

Oh. Lol.

I guess it could possibly be Tor tor, which also gets huge. Tor tor seem to be somewhat thicker bodied and have rounder heads. It looks rather like a putitora to me, though when I need to tell a Tor tor from a putitora, I generally shoot a PM to Wes. Honestly, I think I might be happy with either one. The big fish does have a big red flag hanging off of its hind end, so it might be Tor tor.

Yeah those were the same concerns I had about the fishermen's mahseer. A putitora should be more elongated and their scales and tail shouldn't be so red. It would be great if Ken or Wes can chime in on this thread. Whatever that is I want one! And I don't even know how a tor tor looks like. lol. Google has nothing or very little info on them. I want to collect all of the mahseers!

Yeah, searching "Tor" or "Tor tor" results in hits about some corporation that has the acronym TOR. Makes it hard to find the fish lol

I'd really like to hear Wes or Ken's input on this as well.
 
Lol i run into the same problems when I look up tor tor. Anyways I believe I was able to pinpoint the location of the fishermen's mahseer. It appears to have been caught from the Cauvery River. Here are some pictures of some mahseers from the same river. Could they be the same species as the one in your picture? Definitely not putitora and I don't think its mussullah either but I could be wrong.

Color morph possibly? The first one looks a lot like addisonlee's fish IMO. I'm fairly certain what you dug up is probably the same thing as the one I posted.

Hmm, Guide to the Identification of Mahseers (Tor). Sounds like it might be a fun new project...

putitora right here guys... depending on tank color, substrate and lighting the fish will look different.. mine looks different from almost any angle and lighting... and i'm starting to notice that the gold comes with age

Sounds good and I can only hope my putitora will grow up to be like that. How is your putitora looking? But that tank is going to be beast for sure. Are you going to sell the old tank? lol
 
maybe sell the 240... putitora is getting fat, growth slowed down since it started eating tilapia.. i saw noticable growth when it was only eating whole smelt...
