personally id rethink my choice in fish. plenty of people own pirahna on this forum but i find them incredibly boring in a tank, they sit there all day hardly moving. i can think of ten other species that are more intresting to keep and just as spectacular. just my 2p worth

I think that a p tank would look good with a 3d background with smooth rocks and sand. The sand would only be a problem if the p's would get startled and maybe throw some up into you filtration, depending on what you are using for filtration.

When you are setting up their tank, try and think about a river bed and they will be good.

DanDanUK... Sand is my personal preference so as it is fine I'll have that...

Danny Boy... I've had aquariums before with mixtures of different fish etc, and to be honest I've never really seen fish do much more than sit around in the tank!! I want to set up a tank with just one type of fish, and thought that RBP's would be suitable for this.. perhaps its more of a decor thing to me!! whatever the reason, I still fancy giving it a go.. thanks for your input.

JD_MAN... its a Juwel tank that have their filters built into the back corner, its a much bigger version of the tank I've had before.. water is sucked in right at the top of these filters, so I think sand shouldn't be a problem here.

Because it is a second hand tank and not brand new, should the tank be faster to get the right levels etc?? (I'm still yet to look in to testing the water levels!!)

Thanks again
marc

No dis respect or owt mate but if you have only had fish which have sat around and done nothing mate you can't have kept many good quality fish ! And Red Belly piranhas are the kings of doing just that !!! Sitting around and s***t!ng themself over every little thing which come close to the tank !

I was just talking about their natural habitat. Rivers always have a lot of very smooth rocks and sand. And then also use some type of a powerhead to create a good flow in the tank. If you can recreate that then their shouldn't be any problems. But, tanks are all personal preference, so go with whatever you think looks best. I was just trying to let you know using sand isn't a problem with them.

To each their own. If everybody kept the same stuff it would be a pretty boring hobby.

Oh I see... I thought riverbed was a name for something to add to the tank.. sorry I'm a bit :screwy: !!!

I'll prob go for just that, smooth rocks 3d rock background, perhaps a couple of good big logs to seperate the tank a bit

Thanks
