I had my rbp's since they were 2-3". I have 6 of them and none died. I thoguiht that half would die but they all leave. RBP's are hardy fish and rejuvinate fast. They're housed inb a 55g tank w/ a 11" oscar. The rbp's right now are 6-7". Now, I am totally bored w/ them and thinking to sget rid of them and get a cichlid tank.

every try ketapeat??

ive read that plants can grow with less light if you use it in the water and buried a small bag of it next to the plants root.

Never heard of it, I will be refering back to this post as I start setting the aquarium up, so will definately look into that, I got it last night, but I have to give it a good clean out before I do anything, think we leave work early on Fri so may make a start then...

I have white sand it looks really good but gets dirty when i feed my rbp's feederfish. make sure to put your filter sucker thing a bit higher so no sand gets in it, and wrecks your filter. Sounds like a good project show us some pics when your all done.

I'm going for dark sand this time, I had a light coloured sand in my last aquarium... the filter sucks in right at the top of the aquarium, it is a juwel aquarium with the built in filter.. there is no problem with sand on this sort.. thanks for advise, I will take pictures when done...

Thanks

I have a pleco in there too w/ my rbps. Just give him a place to hide and he will be fine.

Might give it a go, I'll look for a largish one, and put a hiding place for him...

How long has he been in there???

The friend that I got my reds off of went through 3 plecos before he got the current one which is still alive....for now. It might be better to go with a small one so he has more hiding spots.
