you certainly can over feed it so be careful of that. anything uneaten within a reasonable amount of time should be removed from the tank..... also a lot of people have trouble making the switch to pellets from blood worms and such. You may want to start a pellet diet as soon as possible, especially at 3-4". thats plenty big enough to eat pellets.
agreed try feeding it pellets as a staple food nd feed it the worms etc every few days starving it but not killing it i also read that powerfeeding to get them to reach huge sizez is bad resulting in a shorter life span not sure if theres any truth in that statement

Growth:

My Silver Aro went from 4" to 14" in about 7 months. The tank you house an Aro in should be at least 25%-50% wider than the length of the Arowana. So plan accordingly.

Food:

The single biggest challenge in this aspect is to get the Aro to eat Aro-sticks (prepared food). I have not been able to do this with my Aro.

Started out with Freeze Dried Blood Worms when he was less than 6 inches. Then switched to jumbo krill or cut-up Shrimps. Then moved entirely to sea-food. Current he is on shrimp, jumbo krill, silver-sides and other assorted sea-food.

To get him trained to eat Arowana Sticks, there is a "training regime" which involves starving the fish for as long as it's needed before he starts eating Arowana sticks. This is important, but I don't think this is recommended for an Aro less than 6 inches. (Experts can elaborate more on this point).

Good luck and plan ahead,
Sid

PS: The hassles might seem a bit more than the other fish you have so much experience with. But, believe me, it is an awesome experience to hand-feed a 14" monster fish. (I don't know if it's very common, but I will post a video of this over the weekend.)

How big was it when you got it? If mine grows 18 inches in 8 months I am going to be really impressed. Like I said, I will move it to the pond when it gets to about a foot. It won't take me too long to get it together so I will start when it hits 10. I just hope that he doesn't grow the last 2 inches in a week.

EDIT: Sorry, this comment was for aidenb. I didn't see that there was a secong page already.

So basically, I feed it until it quits eating. Then I remove anything it hasn't eaten. I can handle that. Does the three times a day have to be exactly 8 hours apart?

You dont really have to do three times a day. I find that once a day is already enough regardless of size. Unlike afro aros, they dont have to reach a certain size before being able to build fat reserves. As for pellet training, just starve your aro a couple days and only offer pellets. 3-4" aros that are well fed beforehand are able to last a week or two without food, while larger aros can eventually go a month or two. Starve accordingly and only offer pellets.

He was about 6". Although his growth was exceptionally fast compared to most, make sure you start the pond as soon as possible. My jardini on the other hand is growing much slower

i've just recently got a little aro, he/she is about 4" and i am feeding him mealworm which he plays with. He carries it about for a bit and then eats it. He also eats normal fish flakes too. does he need more mealworm? he pretty much eats whatever he can fit in his mouth

sorry for the crash

Well, turns out that the LFS didn't get my fish in their order so I have to wait another week. I am perusing craigslist daily looking for a pool to use as the pond liner. I want to get a small intex pool. I found a much larger liner for free but It may be too big.

I went to the LFS today to get some filter cartridges for our tanks. Looks like I may not be getting my fish very quickly. They are having trouble finding the small ones available. I can get a larger one for $60 but I don't want a larger one. Looks like I will wait.

I have a 6 inch Silver Arowana that I have had since June. It lives in a 30 gallon tank and I have a 55 gallon tank stored in my basement that I'm going to put it in soon.
So far I have only fed my fish feeder guppies with an occasional cricket. I haven't tried to get it to eat pelleted food. Is this a good idea?
