I have a 6 inch Silver Arowana that I have had since June. It lives in a 30 gallon tank and I have a 55 gallon tank stored in my basement that I'm going to put it in soon.
So far I have only fed my fish feeder guppies with an occasional cricket. I haven't tried to get it to eat pelleted food. Is this a good idea?

No it's all a bad idea. Get the arowana onto pellets and start shopping for a tank that can actually house the arowana properly as it grows.

Your fish is going to be folded in half to fit into the 55 by next year. You need a 75 within the next 4-6 months. Then you should skip the 125 and go straight to a 12'x3'x3'

Looks like I won't be getting the aro after all. The time that I have been waiting for the LFS to find a fish for me I have reevaluated the plan to get a fish that is going to take a lot of care. I have a pretty active life style. At the time, I don't think I can devote the time needed to raise the fish properly. I will take the time to instead build my tank back to its former glory. I even found a 110 lobster tank for sale locally. So maybe I will get a very large community going again and leave the Aro for when I am more middle aged.

lol 12x3x3 may be a little extreme, but would be nice.

Without wanting to seem like an arse, I have to agree. Everything in your post, including having a silver arowana when the biggest tank you have running is a 30g, is a bad idea. But I guess its too late to say do some research before buying the fish. Get that 55g running right now, and get the silver onto pellets asap, then start saving for an 8x3x2' or larger tank...

I didn't think I would need a bigger tank so soon. I'll have to get that 55 gallon tank out of the basement. Maybe I can set it up Labor Day weekend.

Thanks!
