look I have a bgk they would be fine in the 75 but that is the absolute smallest.
if you do the stock you had ( 1 sen 1 del 1 bgk) then you can decide on a topwater fish and a few midwater. the bgk will stay towards the bottom but they have great personality.if you want preds, you could do a needlenosed gar for topwater and mabey a quicker fish for the midwater a school of tiger barbs would be cool. hopefully they would be quickenough to get away from the bichirs. also make sure you get the bgk first to give it a chance to grow befor you add the more agg. bichirs
remember with this hobby you have tons of options. what are you doing for filtration? that would say what you would be able to keep.?

Filtration wise I was thinking 2 Hagen Aqua Clear Power Filters. One for 60-110 and another for 30-70. Each end of the tank and possibly a decent sized airstone 4-5" round maybe. Or am I looking at that all wrong?

thats straight from BeBlondie the greatest mod who lived an look! 30 gallons is on there.

Tank size
Bichirs do not need a great deal of water depth in their tanks 8 to 12 inches is actually
sufficient for any of the species. The minimum tank size for a single small species of
bichir is a tank with a footprint of 36''x12''x16'' your standard 30 gallon tank.however
bigger is almost always better so if you're looking to primaraly house bichrs listed below are
some tank sizes to consider for the smaller species.
30 gallon 36''x12''x16'' (this is the minimum size for 1 smaller species bichir)
30 gallon Breeder 36x18x12''
33 gallon Long 48x13x12
40 Gallon Breeder 36x18x16
40 gallon Long 48x13x16
50 Gallon 36x18x18
75 Gallon 48x18x20
125 Gallon 72x18x22*See note
150 Gallon 72x18x28 *See note
for the bigger species
120 Gallon 48x24x24
180 Gallon 72x24x24
The above are fairly standard sized tanks and should be available thru your local stores
*note The difference here is in the depth of the tank 6'' unless you feel the need for the
extra depth the 125 is the better/cheaper choice.

I would do a sump with wet dry and a canister for unrivaled water clarity.
plus you wouldnt have all that hardware in your tank.

I'll look into the wet-dry. It's just being in an Apartment for the time being next 2-3yrs. I don't have that much room. Also aren't most of those DIY type projects. While fun being in an apartment limits what I can/can't do.

SpJ I'm fairly new to the Wet/dry setup. an you give me a brief run down. I perused the filtration forum and even searched wet/dry to find out what they are and how they work exactly. How big would I need necessarily for a 55Gal. or a 75Gal.? Just a basic rundown will do so I can understand better what are in the more advanced posts.

well the consept of the wet dry isnt to hard you have a pump that puts water into the sump. the water runs onto a drip panel which drips the water through scrubbies. at the bottom the water moves through the rest of the sump and finally into a return pump and back into the tank

I see so in a sense a "rain catcher" with a filter (that's how I see it anyhow) To do that I wouldn't have the space in the apartment....sadly...Would the Aquaclears be okay though? With the different types of filtration for them (Sponge,Carbon, BioMedia, and an Ammonia reducer). With 2 I could do a combo (3per filter). A Sponge on each then Biomedia/ammonia in one and Biomedia/carbon in another? The airstone I mentioned is just to purely move water in some way shape or form. Haven't really found another water mover. Also what is a Powerhead?

Hi, am new on here, too. My boyfriend and I are into fish big time. We just built a 200 gallon freshwater aquarium and have a spotted gar and some south african cichlids in there. We are wanting to build another 200 galllon tank to make saltwater. Just thought I would introduce myself and say hi. Hi!!!
