New mini monster....Ctenopoma Acutirostre

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cute little bush fish. Nice odd ball pick up.

Mini predators they sure are!
You might want to start counting the number of rummynose in there. Hopefully they dont mind them and only be interested in prepared food.
Provide more long leaves hardy plants like Java Fern and you will see its interesting ambush predatory trait.

Personally for me, they look awesome in a blackwater setup.

Awesome! I'm looking up and down for these guys and can never find one :(

May I ask how much they cost over there?

Good luck with the guy ;)

Congrats! They are awesome fish.

Mine grew rather quickly - I got it at 1.5 inches where it was also living with rummynose tetras. About 4-6 months later he was 4 inches and snacking on the rummynose.

They are really cool fish. Mine begged for food a lot and would really gorge himself, especially when I fed non-pellet foods like silversides, frozen krill, live earthworms, etc. I would also get some ghost shrimp on occasion and it was really fun to watch him stalk them.

Hendre Hendre - I got mine at Wet Spot, he was tank raised and less than $10.

It will be good in my tank of nocturnal fish. Thanks :D

eeJamBOYan eeJamBOYan Yes, mini predators for sure! This is my qt tank. Those 2 rummies will soon move to my 135 to join my group of 10. But the cteno doesn't even give them a glance (for now). I know as he grows that will change. My last cteno I had for 7 years and he did make a snack of any smaller fish such as cardinals, etc.

Hendre Hendre I believe these fish are seasonal so keep an eye out soon.

magpie magpie thought you might like this video of the previous cteno I had hunting ghost shrimp.
