New Monster Fish Shop on the island! -- all the stars are lining up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You're asian?

What type of juvie monsters are commonly available over there homer?

All types of catfish / rays / chiclids... almost anything you can think of comes through here... just some fish are more seasonal than others...

He cliff hanged us!

Lol, yeah I have :) Perhaps I'll reveal in the near future -- first I want to make sure I wasn't scammed on the fish I put a deposit on -- I'm starting to get a little worried after a rather strange PayPal snafu has arisen -- Seller is asking me to request PayPal for a refund because of some problem with his PayPal account; then afterwards re-send the payment to another account.

But PP is closed over the weekend and I can't get much help until tomorrow to resolve the matter. Of course I'm not re-sending and money to another account until my first payment has been fully refunded from PP (nor is Seller pressuring me to do so). Maybe I'm just being paranoid but I've never had to do like this on PP, will let you know how it works out (and if it is a scam will certainly spread the word).

I suppose the same could be said of Bangkok (given Chatuchak aquarium market is there), but in any case what monster fish they may have there rarely trickle out to the provinces, where local people again just don't have the mindset (or maybe money) to keep monster fish (hate to generalize but Thais are also quite a bit lazier than Chinese :)

There's also the fact that most locally bred stock goes overseas, where breeders can get quite a bit more money for their fish compared to domestic market.

Ooh I can't wait to hear what you got. It's killing me to wait :p

If you happened to have seen my recent post about a 375 gallon tank I'm going to be taking care of after moving to a new long-term rental, you'll maybe have read that I was lamenting about Thailand being ornamental fish capital of the world, but it's actually hard to find monster fish here in most LFS, except lots of nice Flowerhorns. Most Thais simply aren't into monster fish (except maybe koi in ponds), let alone all the work and expense of maintaining a monster tank.

But I'm very happy to report that today I just found a new shop on the island that opened only a week ago, and they specialize in the big 'uns!

Plz excuse the glare, but here's a few shots of some of their fish -- including some of the most massive (aquarium) rays I've ever seen, they're at least twice the size of King of DIY Joey's for reference.

That makes sense, i thought maybe you were in one of the larger cities of Thailand... if you are in the provinces then it would be similar to China then...

Where you may find a few monsters in provinces, but you’d need to hit up big cities and those fish markets for the constant availability of monsters...

Lol sorry bro I know it's a tad cruel  but first I want to have more confidence that I'm not actually getting (quite elaborately) scammed on my fish order -- will have a better idea when trying to resolve with PayPal tomorrow -- lol I've had enough egg on my face with this "$200" tank already

Just give us a hint pretty please with a cherry on top?
