I am going to be getting rid of my jd's and firemouths so I will have a 55 gallon tank empty soon. Any suggestions for new fish, cichlid or otherwise would be appreciated. I would like something vicious and of a decent size, but small enough so it won't outgrow the tank anytime soon. thanks

solitary flowerhorn perhaps?

maybe an oscar, but you would need to do atleast 2 water changes a week.

I'd go for a pair of salvini. festae grow pretty big (males 12-16" and females up to 12") as do many flowerhorns. salvini have a similar look to fh but usually won't grow as large. :D

Definitely not a flowerhorn, they almost always get too big to live in a 55gal for life. I like the salivini suggestion too...pretty fish with lots of colour.

Too big and mean for a tank that size, similar to a flowerhorn or a Midas.
