I'd recommend some floating plants (live or plastic) to diffuse the lighting somewhat. My big royal jumped tank twice and only stopped after I started using the floating plants. They probably don't like not being able to recede into some shadow. BTW, both times he jumped, he did so by pushing up the glass cover that had pellet food containers and 1.5ft sections of 2x6" lumber holding the cover down.
it wasnt really cheap: 300 euros. but i traded it for some other plecos so that reduced the price a bit
@ oddball: my other big royal has never done that, in fact he comes out whole day, in full light. lets hope this on is the same. ive tried floating plants in that tank but they all die on me in a couple of weeks. I need to check if plastics look good enough to put them in.
I was thinking about reducing the light imput from 3 tl tubes to 1. it still looks good and much less bright. not sure on that though...
