I think as long as the bichir's head is too big for the ray's mouth things should be fine. Whenever my rays hunted feeder fish, they would pin them down and manouver them so as to eat them head first. Quite often when they were done eating their heads, they would give up or stalk another feeder. There was only a 50/50 chance they would eat the whole fish

Funny you should say that Steve because I read a thread that someone started saying rays eat brains hahaha , after reading into it further it seems a lot of peoples rays only take the head off feeders

Mine loves that piece of bogwood in my tank , got a few decent pics of him tree climbing again ill try upload them later

There may then be some truth to the "brains" theory. All my rays did that and it seems other people's rays do the same thing. He looks like he's loving that piece of wood. Are all your ornaments fixed into place because sometimes they like to rearrange things - usually not too concerning but sometimes they can make life difficult like that.

The woods big and heavy enough not to get moved mate , he does push the plastic pipes about but so do my cats and jag so ive wedged it behind wood for now and give up i suppose i could silicone it down , my jag won't stop ripping plastic plants off the tank so ive give up on that one and let him arrange it how he want :)

Any vids of your jardini yet ? He still spooked but the camera ?
Mines coming on a treat in that growout prob put an inch on in 5/6 weeks and started to Hurd together the tinfoil barbs like a sheepdog does with sheep hahaha

Just threw a load of kingsize tiger prawns/shrimp with the shell on in my tank the ray loves them , he's spinning around on the spot de-shelling them and eating the lot , the rest of fish seem to be struggling to get a look in he's sat on them all hahahs :D
