new motoro settled in nicley

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think your cats would end up shanking themselves on a shed barb. But if you were to pick it up and give yourself a small cut, it might require a trip to the doctor. There are a few books available that provide some good info on keeping rays.

It's nice to see a motoro with such evenly distributed patterns - i tend to knit-pick over things like that. I'm not sure if it's your aquarium light but the ring around his spots have a bluish shade to them looks awesome. He seems to like the bog wood as well. Overall you seem to have a very happy ray

Cheers Steve I hope to keep him happy , the lights dont really make much diff to his pattern/colour thats him :)
I read a thread on here where a ray has shanked itself on a shead barb , thats what started me worrying about the cats (suppose its a rare occurrence though)

It was a bit of a nightmare in the shop as there was four to choose from all diff patterns and colours , I too an a bit fussy when it comes to ny fish shape , colour and pattern (suppose we all are) it took me over a week to choose after fair few trips to the shop , worth the wait though he's great

consider yourself lucky. If I saw four for sale in one place they'd need to call the police to get me out. There's something about the rays that fascinate me more than other fish.

I recently got a USB snake-camera that I wanna put in the tank and use to film my toga. I reckon it would be an awesome thing for filming a ray in a tank

Sounds cool Steve cant wait for updates on your toga mines still tiny :) but he'll get there soon no pellets yet but hammering down bloodworm blocks and raw prawns

As soon as I get a chance im going over to the Chinese cash and carry for some foods for my fish , im thinking get a bag of raw king tiger prawns with shell on (for the ray and cats) , bag of muscles and see what else is knocking about there prob whitebait , that place is amazing for fish food and works out much cheeper than lfs's

i fed a lot of the same stuff to my rays. I used to work in a supermarket (repressed memories), and the deli section had some awesome raw food for them - usually prawns, squid and fish fillets. And like you said, much cheaper than lfs. If you're willing to deal with the mess, you could try crushing some pellets and "seasoning" the toga's frozen food with it. Worked well for my rays but it will most likely bump up your maintenance schedule.

Tried the camera yesterday - seems to be the only thing my toga is afraid of.... just my luck hahaha

I've started to season prawns for my toga few weeks ago mate were on the same page ;)
Typical that yours is camera shy you should cover it in tinfoil like a barb do it swims over and kicks the crap out of it hahaha :D

My ray seems fine the birchir had a pop at him few days ago but nothing major think he was after pellets under the ray more than anything , they do produce lots of waste ive noticed even more so than plecs id say definitely makes more mess especially when pellets involved

its funny because my toga doesnt seem to have a problem attacking fingers, which basically look like a fatter snake-cam.

That's because fingers are pink and fleshy hahsha ;) , wait till he's 2ft it'll eat that camera

My ray was popping his nose out the water last nite , hand feeding may be on soon if I dont spook him :)

lots of rays love to do the "chin-ups". A guy i know has some that would swim upside down and do barrel rolls from time to time. He was able to hand feed his rays against the glass when they would do the chin-ups. If you wanna start hand feeding, try with a long pair of tweezers first - might help.

I didn't know you had a bichir - over here they're rare as jellyfish bones

A few people have mentioned long tweezers ill give ita go suppose its the safest way for me and the ray to gain confidence

the birchir is a bit of a funny tankmate choice , basically I got give two when they were small one got munched my my jar as I thought they might but the other he just left well alone (the slime off the first must have tasted horrible im guessing) so ive ended up with one not my first choice in fish but he's pretty cool and started putting on weight recently so its all good , need to watch him with the ray though , all my cats pick the birchir up and move him around the tank its quite comical to watch just hope the ray dont end up chomping him back , they've gone up in price quite a lot in UK recently my lfs has one same size as mine for £60 its about 10" , but not rare you see juvi's in every shop its bigger ones that are harder to come by
