I just got in 2 WC peru Motoro rays... Male and Female.

The Male is doing fine, but the female seems to have some irritation on her underside..

Like little pink spots here and there. (It's not argulus- I made sure of that)

She is eating live blackworms.

Any ideas? Seems to be breathing harder or well, faster? than my male, but not a stressful type breathing.

i'll post pics soon.

My first bet would be ammonia trauma from shipping.

I would test the water daily and change 10-20% at the sign of anything other than zero. Test for ph, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, use new test kits thatnare in date and do not use dip strips. Be honest With the results.

A little salt may help but I wouldn't add more stress yet.

Post up some pics

Keep the lights off for a few days and feed lots of whatever they like.

If it doesn't go after a week or so then report back but pics are useful...they paint a thousand words.

Ok, so I tested the water, and everything is in check. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, >5 nitrate. Temp is 86. Ph is 7.4. I only use liquid within time frame, so no worries there.

They are in a 125 QT tank alone with an eheim pro 2, AC110, and a koralia pump with an airstone behind it for added oxygen flow. I am adding more filtration asap. I have an eheim pro 3 that I am going to add to this tank.

They came in a week ago. My buddy has been keeping them for qt, as he has henlii, and he could do the QT process, and evaluate them for me.

They were doing great, although the female came in stressed- but they acclimated, and started eating like pigs.

But, point blank, they were in too small of a tank with under filtration, and that's when I think the ammonia did the most damage. So this is my fault.

So they were transported over to my house (not even a 5 min drive)- I was at work, but my fiance said that the female was breathing rapidly, and was red underneath...

The male ray is fine (except I DID find argulus on his bottom- which I didn't realize at first from quick glance)- but the female seems to just be red.

They both are red- and I'm fearing bacterial infection...

Here are some pics- :(

They were both on seperate sides of the tank, but the male came and joined the female. Male is 10"- female is 6.5"- She seems more relaxed than she was 20 mins ago, and she is back to breathing normal.

In order of pics-both, female reflection of underside, female underneath, male underneath. (cell pics)

Underneath the female looks better than the male.

Well, the lights are turned off, and I went back down to check on them, and he will not leave her alone, so I divided them.

She's breathing super heavy, and I am suspecting disc curl.. Pics.

What do you think? She won't move the back left of her disc.. It was fine half an hour ago.

Yah she is starting to curl, all you can do is limit the stress on her and do waterchanges

Dose with prime if you haven't already.

I don't want to alarm you but she doesn't have a great chance of making it. Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best :(

She is curled all around. Im so angry right now.....

I should've just kept them at my place from the beginning.

She's gone..

Male is good.

Sorry the female died. Seems like too much stress. Why is the water so warm?

I've read that's what they should be kept at. What temp would you recommend?

She died from ammonia poisoning I think from where she was being kept before I got her.
