Southern ringneck I believe ? Nonpoisonous, but maybe there's another type I'm forgetting about.

I believe santoury is right. Rumor has it they are harmless and rarely ever bite, even when handled.

ya looks like a big ring neck snake.
usually you see them only a few inches big, thin as a pencil.
that one looks to be the biggest ive seen, but thats miami 4 ya right?lol
still have it?
might be worth something at a reptile store that size.
or use it as pb bait. :grinno:
its not a fishing hook so your safe from it biting you.

yea, biggest i've seen to. I used to keep small babies one i'd catch when i was younger. fun little snakes likes to slither through your fingers.

you should keep it matt

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I guess it's safe to get down from the bench, outside my front door, where I took the Zoom in shot. Lol

It's not that big. Only about 6 inches. Now about 8 inches after I stretched it out after catching it. lol

I find these guys sunning just outside my front door once or twice a year. First thing I do whenever I open the front door is look around for its parents. The wife says if there are babies, there must be a big mama or papa snake around. We can breath easier now.

I learned a saying from "the reptile man" in grammar school....If The red touches yellow, you are a dead fellow, if the red touches black, you are OK jack ;) lol I think it really works too....

Bigspizz - that DOES ring true, with a few exceptions. It's those exceptions you want to be careful about for sure!

Ringnecks are egglayers, so you won't be seeing "mama and papa" but ringnecks are communal, and there are sure to be more in the general vicinity, usually underground.
He is also about 1/2 grown - they don't get big at all. Feed him earthworms, they don't eat much else.
