I learned a saying from "the reptile man" in grammar school....If The red touches yellow, you are a dead fellow, if the red touches black, you are OK jack ;) lol I think it really works too....
this is the easy way to distinguish between a venomous eastern coral snake and a harmless scarlet king snake which look very similiar...dont use that saying above for all snakes ;)

below is a pic showing the two snakes here in the US that the saying was made up for:

Scarlet kings are also Much larger than coral snakes who are generally only able to bite you on the fingers or hand webs.
Several milk snakes and the AZ mountian king also share a very similar color pattern.

i've always remember the coral snake saying as

red and yellow frights a fellow, red and black is a friend of jack.

but I tend to just stay away from most snakes.

I knew it was to distinguish kings and corals from one another, but it seems to work for many many snakes. I'm a tool for even bringing up some silly kid riddle in pertaining to a real subject that matters. lol Thanks for the informative pic though....:)

Might be huge for a coral snake for sure but the kings are easilly twice that long. Still....a better saying would be...if you don't recognize it....stay away from it. LOL

lol looks very nice

Cool snake man. Awesome color.
