I've had my cfs700 for a little over a year now, however I've not seen that one you linked. I'm in the planning stages for my 8' and will get 2 of them. I also agree with dan on the maintenance of filters by the owner also plays a big part in how long they last. Also, the amount of filteration plays a big part also. There is a lot of factors that can go into determining how long they last as we all know.

I have a model 2017 that did last twenty years (much longer than you've been alive) and I have several 2217s that are pushing ten years old. The quantity of detritus in a filter is not a good indicator of age, but rather an indicator of poor maintenance practices.

My fx5 has worked wonders for 7 yrs now. And clock work u out to check into the warranty on that motor. If i'm not mistaken the motor warranty is 3 yrs... Not hatin but good luck getting that with a knock off bargain filter. Also my fx5 pumps about 900g/h which is awful strong for most fish. 1400g/h could blow some not so monsterous fish all around

Haven't seen you around for a while! Some seem to work well and last a while, but I know a few locals that have had problems with them. I'm not hating on them or anything, just pointing it out.
I'm also not planning on buying this new filter, I prefer sumps these days, my 225 has 6 FX5s worth of filtration for the price of less than two of them. BTW the FX5 is 600 gph with media.

I am very happy with my "knock off" aquatop canister filters I'm running on my 90 gallon and two 75 gallons. Looking forward to seeing an actual review of this new filter still.

I have 5 fx for 4 years the only problem is the poor designed locking clamps, the plastic anchor will eventually break. Then they are $8 each to replace, I had 9 clamps total break between the 5 filters.
That's 9 x $8 to maintain extremely pricey filters.

Now the real reason to buy from a reputable manufacturer, I called Hagen and after a few savey emails wilth their rep they sent me 10 new locking clamps free of charge.

considering almost all cans are built in china now, im not too worried about the "knock off" aspect. i feel most cans are severely overpriced now, considering you used to be able to buy an xp3 for $100 but a few years ago. i bought my xp4 for $130 new "back in the day", but would never consider buying another for todays prices. there has to be a cheaper alternative to todays pure greed from the manufacturers, perhaps this is it.

NOTE- i did buy an odyssea MH light, and the ballast did break after less than 24 hours of use, but for the $5 fix i had to put into it im still happy i saved atleast $150 over other brands. for low prices i do expect problems though.
