Thanks to PDRed302 (Man, I love your Shark Avatar video thingy) and TripleW. I've had the tank in operation since late July. The Severums are happy and growing. The green female has nearly doubled in size. I think it could be time for a nice little Tiger Oscar in a couple of weeks.
As I'm not in my 20's anymore and have broken my back in the past, I improvised on the filter placement. You'll notice the C-530's are sitting on pieces of Luan installed in wire sliding shelving. These are rated to hold 100lbs and work very nicely:
So now it's a year later and I've added another canister to the two Marineland C-530's I had filtering the tank. Yesterday, I setup a ML C-220. Small? Yes, but there was only about 10" of available space between the sliding shelving I put the 2 C-530's on. So I had to keep it narrow in order to ease it's removal for maintenance. I was also looking at an Eheim 2073/2075, but they're 2" wider and double the price. I would've been okay with paying the $200 (approx.) but it would've been considerably harder to remove from the stand. Same thing with an ML-360.So anyways, here's some current pics of my fish:So, Ritchie (Tiger Oscar) is about 9" long now and the Green Severum is about 6-7" while the Gold Severum is about 5". Overall I'm happy with how they're progressing. The tank is definitely the focal point of the dining room and quite the conversation starter. I just wish I had more room...
Thanks Dude, Ritchie is definitely the "star of the show" in the tank. He's pretty well behaved with the Severums. But he bit me pretty good the other day when I was adjusting the outlet diffuser on the new C-220. They don't really have much in the way of teeth, but he took a run at my hand when I wasn't watching him. Startled me more than anything. Guess he didn't want me messing with "His Home".
Beautiful fish and love the shelf idea for the filters. I have a herniated disc in my lower back so I may have to look into doing something like that for the stand that I built.
