Nice catch! Thank goodnes you could save it! Poly's aren't too picky for food at least :)

As for the colour... I heavily doubt that it's a platinum. Polypterus colours vary greatly depending on substrate, health and age. My wild sen for example, was a very off pale green when I got him. He now sits around as a nice mottled olive with a tan belly.

Honestly I would hold onto this fish, a breeding age female senegal is pretty uncommon. I'd try and find a male and let them get busy ;)

That is awesome of you to take her in!
It is not a platinum sen. Its just washed out. If it were platinum that dummy wouldn't have had it first off. No one is going to spend $300 on a platinum sen and leave it in that kind of filth. It probably came from one of the big box stores for $8 and some how managed to survive.
clm08k clm08k gave you alot of great advise on care follow that info. They are not hard to care for and will eat just about anything food wise.
A few years back some idiot kept a several grand albino snapping turtle, being a idiot he never bought a uvb bulb (believe it or not some people think fully aquatic turtles don't need uv light) and his turtle was eventually taken away when someone reported a horribly deformed turtle.
People who can't be trusted with a little, definitely can't be trusted with a lot

True!
I guess I tried to not make my reply to wordy. It's not just the price but the availabilty and ability to find a platinum sen, that along with the look of the animal that made me say no way. I know lots of people that have some how found animals ive looked for and couldnt find that had no business owning. So I guess its not out of the question that some dummy could get their hands on a platinum poly. I've seen some questionable pics of people saying ive got a platinum poly. Ive seen a platinum endli and a platinum sen in person and they don't look like that. They look like $$ not a possible washed out poly. There is no guess to it, jet black eyes and white almost silver skin. It would be hard to take a pic of it that poorly to look that far off.
But that doesnt matter here. It was a good deed and im very happy Go_redfish Go_redfish was able to help her. I wish for her sake it was a platinum and she could say I saved a platinum sen and I now have a very expensive lucky fish but she just has a very lucky fish.

Lol I only get snobby about koi and goldfish. Everything else is "meh... Just a fish" to me. But I must admit I've become very attached to my oscars. They are being spoiled rotten.
