I'd have to say it does look like an L090, that hasn't developed fully yet, or has been picked on.

well L090's stay that coloration, but the tail is what is not fully colored. he is developing the red tinge tail, so probably around 5"...

ive seen them much darker that that, and with less clear markings so that one doesnt look bad to me

Then again, many of the royals can be difficult to distinguish when they are very young. size does play a major factor in these fish.

you have to do it buy eye colour, then pattern and body colour, theres just a lot of them and they are all v. similar

When young the L330 and L190 are very difficult to distinguish. Both have red eyes, and similar colorations. the pattern doesn't really emerge until they hit about 3"

id never buy a pleco smaller than that anyway (unless it only grew to 4")
