I wasn't sure where to post this...

I love photography. Fish are just one aspect of the hobby. Among other things I enjoy photographing animals. Here's a few shots of friends pets.

My friend raises Akita's. He wanted a picure of all the puppies. We tired everything...three people scunching them all together then jumping out of the shot. Invariably one or the other would move. Finally I said, just pick up all four. I got the shot...

But when he put them down, they all just lined up like this...

Sometimes pure luck and timing. Here's another shot that relied on timing. Our friends have a VERY large Malmute/Shepard. The dog ran up onto a bluff and I was trying to get a shot of him back lit looking down. I missed the shot, but caught this one as he was coming down.

I use a flash for a lot of my outdoor photography to fill in shadows. In this shot I simply got lucky and the cat looked directly into the flash that was off the camera and on a tripod to the left. Nothing was done to the eyes to make them this yellow. I just had the right amount of flash to fill those big eyeballs with light. That plus the contrasting colors of the drab colored cat...make them literally pop out of its skull.

I'm really enjoying HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography. For those who don't know, it's basically a group of photos shot at different speeds maintaining the same aperture. The end result is that the shadows and highlights reveal detail at each level. When put together in Photomax pro you get some interesting effects.

We take our Shepard for a long trail walk every Saturday. I started carrying my camera and glad that I did. The outdoors offers all kinds of opportunity for pictures.

A beautiful forest stream with morning light coming through the trees. Note that you can see the detail far back into the shot. This is because I used a very high aperture (f22) as well as the HDR technique.

Self portrait. I call it "too late". The Troll showed up.

HDR shots of "Good Old Things" in Scranton. It is literally an architectural junkyard. Google it and see. I spent several hours taking photos. Here's a sampling of HDR pics from the place. What was interesting is that I used an extremely HIGH ISO to shoot some of these. Some as high as ISO 2500. The only real effect on the HDR image was that they were a little bleached out...but that added something to the image.

Nice shots.
Went pretty crazy with the tone mapping huh?
The only problems I encounter with HDR is the noise.
Thanks for sharing.

great photos as usual Mo! The akita lineup is priceless, great shot!

That's the beauty of photography; there is no 'right' or 'wrong' way. It's an art, and the results are reflective of the artist's style :)

wow those are some awesome shots.

I wish A. I owned a camera good enough to get shots like that and B. that I could get shots like that

Cool photos. You ever think of doing wildlife? Getting some animal calls and going hunting. Justing shooting with your camera instead of a bow or gun. I'd bet you get some awesome shots.

These shots would be right at home in a National Geographic magazine...I have those old metal fence posts in my backyard.I guess at some point they were taken down by previous owners.

awesome shots.

Your wife is, however, far, far, prettier than you.

I have considered doing that. I need to get a much longer lens than I have now. One of my other passions in a past life was the birds of prey. I used to work at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary recording the BOP as they migrated south.. Rather than photograph game, I would probably lean toward them.

Thanks pal. It's one of my favorite shots. Just waiting for a contest of some sort to enter the picture.

Which program are you using for the HDR? I've heard that the HDR plug in with CS5 is good. I like using the third party Color EFX Pro by Nik. Bottom line is that it really depends a lot on the initial image. If it has noise, so will the finished product. If by noise you mean "ghosting" it's an issue of locking down the camera.

Thanks for the input folks.
