Just happened to stop by a pet store today and found this fish, which until I saw it , didn't know existed. I actually asked how much they were selling the convicts for because they were so colorful and big, but as it turns out, they are a completely different fish. All I know is that they are a calmer fish than cons, are easy to breed, and have awesome coloration. Had to get one despite the near 14 dollar tag. I think it's a female and it can't stop moving and digging the gravel since it got in the tank a couple hours ago. Nice looking fish, I tried to take some shots but it's quick and still a bit timid. If anyone has any first hand info on these guys I would love to hear it.

The Convict is Amatitlania nigrofasciata. The status of the HRP is a little uncertain. AFAIK it is either Amatitlania siquia, Amatitlania sp. Honduran Red Point or Archocentrus sp. Honduran Red Point. Here's a pic of two
of my pairs.

All your fish look great. I'm excited to get the opportunity to own one of these, I would have never known they existed if it didn't fall into my lap. I see that a lot of you guys are Canadian or close to it, are they more common up north, or have I just been that oblivious? By the way Winnipeg, it's about time we beat your Jets. Your team looks pretty good since the move, congratulations on bringing hockey back to your town, never heard fans like that in Atlanta.

great pick up nice fish

Yeah, and if you breed them you will notice that the rio danli variety (the kind you have) will lose their red in their tails in breeding dress... Here's an example

Yes they're much more tolerant than convicts are. My male is in a 20 long with 8 pristella tetras and two smaller HRP rio danli (looking for a pair) and he tolerates everyone, the only time he does anything is a small chase of the smaller HRPs in the tank. He never got aggressive with the tetras, not even while breeding (he bred with a .75" female con a while back, culled the fry)

Awesome. Thanks for the breeding advice too, I'm always hoping for a batch from any of my fish so it will be cool to have a visual cue to look for. I found this picture image searching and was blown away by the color this fish has. Sound like today was a lucky day for me.

Call me crazy but that fish looks to be a hybrid of convict and hrp, I say this because the "beak" is too pointy (HRP typically have a more rounded snout), and normally HRP are blue on their whole body, not just their bellies
