I have an adult male, and maybe this pic could help you out. Males do have longer streamers.

Thanks for the picture but I'm still unsure. Since I am not confident it is in fact a pure RPC I will have to post another picture and see what people think. Mine definitely has more orange in the belly area though.
ANY orange, red, pink, gold on the belly is female.
Male HRP have more red in the fins and tail than females
HRP are also longer and skinnier. Cons are taller for their length.

I've seen pics of males that have orange on the belly, my male has a little. I think the uncertain taxonomic status is confusing things. I had someone else tell me that only males have orange on their belly. I suspect we are talki g about more than one species. I keep reading sooo am y conflicting opinions on what these fish look like. Actually we're probablly talking about more than one species and all the natural variants in the various rivers so, I'm still confused

I can't get a picture of this thing. These are the best I can do for now because this fish won't leave the plant. Maybe you can make out the trailer and all of the color on it's belly. If not I will give it another try tomorrow.
Managed to get a couple decent shots. I'm still on the fence with this one. Belly orange has me thinking female, long streamers have me thinking male.
i vote female as well.. get looking HRPs guys i love the four i have they have a great personality and are one of my favorite cichlids. out of the four i have only one is aggressive like a convict because he is the king of the tank
