There are two visible varietys that I have seen. the white ones, like I have posted up there, with the frosty blue colour and red fins for males, and the darker kind that a lot of you guys seem to have. they have a darker base with a darker blue colour. still the same fish though. and I do believe they are amatliana Siquia.

Not sure how common they are in Canada I moved here from Europe in November but these guys were brought in from another customer and just thrown in the 5 dollar convict tank even though they were clearly an adult pair of HRPs. so until I accidentally found mine I havent seen them available here in Calgary. but that doesnt mean they aren't here.

oh and also, mine are in a 225 cichlid community with mixed african, madagascan and american cichlids, everyone plays well with eachother and the HRP's are no exception. they are also brilliant parents

one more thing, my lfs had them under a rather yellow bulb. when i put them in my tank which has zoo med ultrasun bulbs at 6500 K color temp they just popped. almost neon. so yeah, get really really white bulbs and their color will be so stunning

Awesome. Thanks for the breeding advice too, I'm always hoping for a batch from any of my fish so it will be cool to have a visual cue to look for. I found this picture image searching and was blown away by the color this fish has. Sound like today was a lucky day for me.

When HRP are photographed with a flash, they get that artificial coloring. An HRP in person will not look like that.

I believe the OP fish is possibly a hybrid. Here is a hybrid pair I have. Dad is fish above and mom is a Con.

All your fish look great. I'm excited to get the opportunity to own one of these, I would have never known they existed if it didn't fall into my lap. I see that a lot of you guys are Canadian or close to it, are they more common up north, or have I just been that oblivious? By the way Winnipeg, it's about time we beat your Jets. Your team looks pretty good since the move, congratulations on bringing hockey back to your town, never heard fans like that in Atlanta.

That was an awsome game. The Flyers totally owned that OT. Go Flyers!
But I am glad the Jets are in Winnipeg.

Hey out of curiosity guys, from my shots can you tell if mine is female or male? I just assumed that the red belly meant female, but since these guys are not related to cons I guess it could just as easily be a male. If anyone could tell me for sure I would be very grateful.

Cichlidfish the Flyers did play a great 60+ minutes last night. Bryzgalov is still on the fritz though, he's keeping teams in the game with some questionable goals. He's got to get consistent before the playoffs. Offensively the Flyers can skate with anybody, defensively there has been some holes. New guys look good back there though, maybe they can help him get his confidence.

Red/orange on belly is a female and usually means its a hrp/con hybrid

A. Siquia is a different sp. then HRPs. A. Siquia look a lot like cons, but w/ orange and yellow on thier sides. Jeff Rapps has them now, and check out the pics on his site.
The problem is that HRP haven't been classified yet, and that is why there is so much confusion.

Pelleeklud-I agree about the Flyers. I hope goaltending will improve, and glad they did something about defense.

I just noticed something last night that makes me actually think it's male. It's got streamers going off it's fins and they are long. Looks a lot like my male Dempsey. Could a female have long steamers.
