New pick up !!! Trimac ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
wait, I'm confused...where on the first page does it say 2 types of trimacs make a flowerhorn? and is that even possible to have 2 types of trimacs? I thought trimacs are...Trimacs, assuming we're talking about the amphilophus family?

Nice little guy... I don't think its a pure Trimac simply because it lacks a few key characteristics of a specimen that size... The most noticeable discrepancy is the almost joined up blotching along the centre of the body... Trimacs are what they say in the book (Three spots "Trimac")

I am a true believer that a real trimac to only has three spots none of the black tear drops or anything like that.

All be it, ppl have pyro ones. And some with extra spots. That morph to my knowledge is not a wild occurrence. That would be like someone trying to say their fish was a true festae, if their festae had an extra spot too.

Just my thoughts.

An EBJD is no less a JD than a 'normal' colored one, even if they don't seem to be ever be found in the wild. Though of course there's heaps of differently patterned JDs and the likes in the wild.

There is quite a lot of variation that occurs in the wild, with almost all species of cichlids. Be it Texans, Festaes, Convicts, or Trimacs. Such as what dogofwar posted.

Trimacs are quite variable in appearance, which makes it not possible to visually differentiate pure ones from those which have been crossed with other fish...

Here's one a guy in Guatemala recently caught: http://www.cichlidae.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=16328

More than 3 spots...

Matt

Great fins. I must say the three main spots are most dominant tho, no?

And I'm sure you can agree if the op had this bugger as his photo to start this discussion I bet we'd all say "99% positive, it's a trimac"

But I agree with what your saying.

What about those breed trimacs with the huge teardrops , your thoughts ?

Trimacs get tears drops. That's original feature of Trimacs. That's not from FHs.

Not all Trimacs get only 3 spots. They can get more. You don't look for a Trimac that way.. But never should a Trimac get full or bold black flower spots that connect into a line(your fish's flowers connect in a line). Their skin colors and faces are distinct also.

There are ppl who have poor judgement and there are others with superior judgements. Never listen to a fool that thinks if he can't then the whole world can't.
But even the best judge can be stumped.

In this case I can tell you I know for sure that your fish is a FH. Even the fins are not fully Trimac fins. But cant really explain. Just train your eyes to look at one of you favorite fishes..
