It's an excerpt from a 5 Part BBC Series called Amazon Abyss. The part where they're snorkelling through the crystal clear cutoff from what I believe is the Rio Negro is absolutely fantastic.

Yeah all I could find were some youtube clips. Need to find the actually series...

A large upside down pot with the bottom knocked out might work better though. ;)

I heard (no experience) that they dig down, then go horizontal, then go up to make a chamber. How I wish I could witness the process......

Yes, I read an account where their digs went a foot down, then turned and went a foot parallel to the surface. Someone refered to them as 'gopher' cichlids once. One of the first and few successfull aquarium breeding attempts made use of the vertical breeding pot idea though, hence the suggestion.

alright Justin - get to work!

All over it brother, trust me. ;)

Question, would you guys mix the heckelii group (approx 3"-4" each) with a lone, mild tempered psittacus? The psittacus is moving to the 225 and I am trying to decide if I want to keep this group in the 225 or move them to the 125 until thery put a little size on them? Appreciate any thoughts...

I kept a group of 6 with my psittacus pair in a 220, with a few other fish. They were 5-6" at the time and everybody got along very well.

I guess it really depends on the psittacus. Try it but keep a close eye on them.....

Cool, thanks Peter. I thought you had mixed them but wasn't sure.

how are the abalios fry doing :)

Lost every one. I found my breeder net the night you suggested it and it had a big tear in it. Went to buy another on my lunch the next day and the female had eaten them all off by the time I got home. You were right about her not releasing them with other fish in the tank. The pair has shown little interest in trying again since that spawn.

I will say it's nice to see her heal up though, her filaments took a beating during the process.

Sorry to hear that... I'm sure they'll try again in a few weeks.
