Finally a stingray owner again! My tank has recently undergone major changes and I am slowly stocking it up again. I started by removing all of the sand I had in there and replacing it by 4" x 4" black tiles. I love the look of the tile and it is so easy to keep clean. Yes, it is a little boring but I love the simplicity of it.

Current stock consists of a 4" silver arowana, four clown loaches (2.5"-3.5") and my latest pickup, a 9" male motoro ray.

The aro would not hold still to pose for a picture and my smaller loaches are all over the place and are nearly impossible to get a photo of but here is what I got quick...

the questions I have about my new ray is....

1 - do you think he is mature enough to introduce a female in the tank?

2 - it appears that he has multiple barbs; should I expect him to shed one soon?

Yes he is mature enough to do the job and he will be shedding a barb not to far into the future

Very Nice!

I would keep in mind those loaches may end up on the menu sooner or later. The barbs on the loaches only seem to delay the inevitable

sadly, 5 minutes after you posted this I look to my right to see my ray eating something. No pellets in the tank I knew he must have been trying to take down one of my smaller loaches. I figured at almost 3" they would be okay but I guess not :(

Any fish will have to be very large and strong to avoid a ray. Loaches hanging at the bottom a lot hurts their chances as well.

I learned this lesson the hard way it happens to the best of us

yea sad part was the poor loach was playing dead being all cute, ended up dead. I'm gonna see if anybody local can take em I love them and their personality but they aren't safe with my ray.

The loach may also become lodged in the rays mouth if the ray ever tries to swallow it. Not sure what the growth rate on clown loaches is like but if the ray can fit it into it's mouth, I would remove it.

Exactly what happened before. Ray kept trying to put it down but spit it out had to net the loach away from my ray it was painful to watch. Divider is up and I posted the loaches for sale need a new home ASAP!
