Tank looks great. I agree with creepyoldguy. Do a sump. You'll love it. The extra water volume never hurts anything, either.

I also noticed the one small loach I have remaining is suffering from ich. The larger loach is perfectly fine as well as my arowana I just raised the temp and am dissolving salt at the moment.

Creepyoldguy's right on. You really need to get a grasp on the size requirements of rays, not only tank and filter but feed as well. Once you get the idea of how much food a large healthy growing ray may consume you'll understand. I personally can't stand canister filters, I still use them but hate the hoops you jump through to keep them clean. Definetly build a sump. I wouldn't have rays without one. Swapping out socks can be done faster then priming a canister with an external pump.

As far as bio more is better..... Can fit more in a sump.

Most of all if you're striving for top notch filtration you'll need to utilize several means (wet/dry, submerged, bio reactor) a sump will allow you options for all this and future upgrades (drip)

I'm already noticing the clear difference in this ray compared to the 3 pups I had last year. This guy flys to the top of the tank to steal pellets from my aro then goes back down and takes down his massivore like a champ.

Great to hear he's doing well. In fish keeping, nothing is mote satisfying than having breeding pairs. Whether it's convicts, jack dempsies or rays, it's a good feeling. Just make sure you're prepared and good luck!

I just need to get rid of these loaches have the partition up at the moment only 2 made it before I got it up and one is suffering from bad ick. One of the smaller loaches got through the partition onto the rays side and ended up as dinner and was also suffering from ick. I know rays are immune to it but is there anything I should look for?

Rays being immune to ich is a highly debated subject. Some people believe that although you are not seeing any external ich it may still affect the rays gills. The theory being that their thick skin protects their body but not their gills.

I would just take the loaches to a LFS and donate them if you have to.

Well, all 3 of the smaller ones are dead the larger one is left alone. It's kind of funny that the larger loach never hung out with the 3 smaller loaches and just hangs out riding on the rays back and the ray doesn't seem to mind.

ray is feeding on massivore but it is very messy takes me a while to net out all the excess after he's done making a mess. what do you guys suggest I try and add to his diet first?

Nice moto and nice tiles! But the ray is nearly as long as the tank width.
I wouldn't add another ray until a bigger tank can be provided. The loaches probably got white-spot from stress from being chased by the ray .
