It doesn't look like a pure yellow lab. It looks more like a hybrid. Anyone else agree?
I agree. But it may also just be bad genetics.Something not quite right for a yellow lab to me.I say Tilapia......

looks fine, it is just an odd angle. The labs have a varying of coloration with white and such. Some say the white is bad breeding, others say it is natural to the wild in some places. So its a crap shoot.

I actually think they may be pseudotrophues tropheops "intermediate" probably females... I just came across a pic on a book I have and it reminded me of your pics that everyone thought were electric yellow but could be this type??

here is a pic of one

Come on Mike: head shape, bars (way too many for Caeruleus), cheeks coloration, ventral fins, anal fin, dorsal fin black stripe interrupted and blue hues on the anal fin...

...Pseudotropheus Saulosi and Labidochromis Caeruleus hybrid.

Buddy you just named two different families PSEUDOTROPHEUS and TROPHEOPS ...no offense, but if you don't do your research better keep it to yourself and don't confuse others as well.

excuse me but I did get that id from a book its called:
african cichlids ll
A handbook for thie identification, care, and breeding
by tetra-press 1994 it was printed in germany and has been distrubuted in many countries, seems to be a reputable source and thats what they have it labled. it says " RINNINK and co-authors (1983) assigned not less than 34 forms to the psudotropheus-complex whereby they limited their survey to the west and south of the lake. All members of this species-group are recognizable by the shape of the head" it goes on a great deal more about this species.

So I did do my homework, mabye this book is outdated? I think it is reliable no?
