excuse me but I did get that id from a book its called:
african cichlids ll
A handbook for thie identification, care, and breeding
by tetra-press 1994 it was printed in germany and has been distrubuted in many countries, seems to be a reputable source and thats what they have it labled. it says " RINNINK and co-authors (1983) assigned not less than 34 forms to the psudotropheus-complex whereby they limited their survey to the west and south of the lake. All members of this species-group are recognizable by the shape of the head" it goes on a great deal more about this species.

So I did do my homework, mabye this book is outdated? I think it is reliable no?

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but 1994 literature is what it is: 15 years old! Now, considering that so many species have been reclassified and their names changed, you might want to consider doing a little more research before claiming three times that it is "that" fish.

Look at the mouth, and I won't go into too many details. How does it look to you?!? Your fish tip for not being a TROPHEOPS is the fact that the mouth is "frontal" Pseudotropheus/Metriaclima/Cynotilapia like.

Tropheops, on the other hand, are more of an algae scrapper family of Mbunas, then the omnivorous species mentioned above. It's so obvious ...

...here's some examples

Omnivorous specialized mouth

and the true Labidochromis Caeruleus

compared to the herbivorous specialized mouth of the Tropheos species, designed to maximize the algae scrapping process.

And please don't give me that attitude. What I said was meant as constructive criticism. Take it or leave it; you won't make a stronger impression by posting several consecutive posts on the same subject. I meant no harm.

LOL don't give me attitude haha we all know females are good at that jk Its for sure a lab. It probly was mixed at some point in heritage I say that for mouth shape

There are Psuedotropheus Tropheops Gold- Look nothing like the picture because these guys have faint black barring resembling a johanni
AND
Tropheops Tropheop which do ressemble the picture but their color is more rusty less electric yellow with age - however they do have electric yellow on the fins and pronounced black vertical barring...........Because not all cameras can capture true aquatic color..................it is highly possible the fish in question is indeed a Tropheop.

I raised one of these little firecrackers and gave it to a friend but like I said the body color was more rusty yellow. As a matter of fact my LFS carries these guys regularly as does our local Walmart.

Quite the quandary indeed.............
