I only used hot water to fill containers to soak the wood for a few weeks BEFORE going in to the tank. The hot water came from a 3 yr old combi boiler with very little copper anywhere in the system. The wood was then soaked for 2 days in cold.
I would not drink hot tap water from a bathroom as they often are fed from tanks in the roof where birds etc could fall in and grow harmful bacteria.
Some people also have issues with the copper content of old pipe work in hot water systems in old houses. I do not have any hot going in to the tank and I have tested for copper and it is not a problem, my f/w feed to the tank comes directly off the stop cock which is fed by plastic mains pipe and a tiny amount of metal, it is plumbed in plastic from there.
Thank you for picking up on this though.
I picked up the Rays from Aquaman45 on Sat a.m. and I have to say that his tanks were beautifully kept and I would even say clinical conditions. His collection is wonderful and he is a brilliant bloke to deal with. I have never seen such wonderful rays before and the pics do not do justice to the real thing.
The Rays are settling in well and I will post up some pics soon.
After the 3.5hr home journey I tested the water and there was zero Ammonia in their travel boxes so I offered some food while dripping them and they ate whilst still in the boxes! There is a lot ot be said for a purge before travel!
My little marble motoro is such a pretty girl, I hope she stays that way!
