New Ray Tank Build - General Information Appreciated

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wouldn't mind something like that. Did you make it yourself with the glass panel on the front or did you purchase it like that?

If you find a US based manufacturer for these (not the pentair ones, those are too small for what I'm after) please let me know. I've been searching for a reasonably priced one forever. UK guys are lucky they have EZ pond and the likes to buy from.

They quoted me starting $15k for a 12x6. Amazing work but hard to justify the $10k more than price to build myself even larger with bigger windows. Super nice and up front about everything though. Professional shop for sure.

There's a dude on another forum building an 8x4 stand now. This gives you an idea of how big the tank is. It's NUTS

DIY is always the cheapest... haha

Do many of you use wood stands still under large tanks (8'x4')? I was planning on making a steel stand just because a wood stand would be pretty heavy after you get bigger than 6'x2' tanks. Plus the structural rigidity and peace of mind of having a steel stand would be nice at those large sizes.

On a separate note, now that I'm planning on jumping up in size and skipping the 210g tank since it isn't ideal for rays. I'm debating what I should do with my panworld pump. It's rated for roughly 500gph which would have given me roughly 2.5x turnover per hour.

What is everybody else using on their 300+ gallon tanks for pumps? I'm assuming I'd need something bigger. I could use 2 return pipes with 2 separate pumps (one would be this panworld pump I already have) and that could help bump up my turnover rate.

I found a used Iwaki IWAKI MD-70RLZT that I could purchase for about $150. Rated for 1500gph, is that enough turnover for a 350g tank? Turnover would be about 4x per hour. My most recent tank idea is a 6x4x2 so it will have a much wider footprint than the 210g tank I was previously looking at.
