yes, preliminary estimates (coming from USFWs folks) are 50-70 years, although when they look at other structures they should be able to get a better age estimate. i would guess it would skew toward the older end of that spectrum.

No. some good can come from these and othet monster gar being caught. Its called recognition. It helps id them as a game fish. They need this status to have the best chance at survival.

like Richard said, yes, they do. like nearly all other fishes, although they continue to grow throughout their lives, the growth RATE itself slows down quite a bit. so those older fishes aren't putting on a great deal of length and weight compared to the earlier years.--
