new retics not eating yet. 2 days

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What worked for mine from the past few days is blood worms and live black worms. They will only nibble at first and then after some time they realize its okay and eat more. Now they are eating a lot better than when I first got them. I think it was just the shipping stress.
I actually had to shut my filter off at feeding so the worms sink and then when they start eating I turn it back on. But I have 2 filters in the tank so one is still running and I only shut the other off for less than 5 minutes. i wouldn't want to kill the bb.I just feed on one side of my tank.
Then I put both filters on one side yesterday and now leave them on and running during feeding and its working.
Hopefully that helps.

yep order the blackworms tonight they are worth it. they are something i would suggest having on hand when you buy new retics. actually i would suggest having everytype of food on hand before you get any ray but thats besides the point.
cut your night crawlers up pretty small. try different size cuts even. give them a variety of food but with dead food if they dont eat it take it out then.
i run air in my tank and think that would be better to have because you need air in the water for them to breath. but like pete said turn them off for a while see if that changes anything. also the main thing is is to feed and leave alone dont keep changing things as this will stress them out. they are hiding alot already mine did also and it took them about a week to start eating. and even after they started eating if i walked up to the tank too fast they would hide.
keep all lights off and try feeding maybe 2-3 times offering a wide variety. the tongs prolly wasnt a good idea as it sounds like they are the only things in the tank so they arent competing for food from everything else and its just scaring them. also what is your temp at maybe turn it up a little.
good luck

the tank is still cycling. thats why ive been doing daily water changes and adding prime and stability. i removed the krill. i tried to set a small trout worm in front of them the female swam over it but no attempt to eat yet. i may have to cut them smaller. it was a few inches long. im tring to keep ammo as low as i can to 0 . shoulnt be long until its cycled.

id order blackworm but i dont have an extra fridge that is inside the house to keep them in.in the fridge outside they will most likely freeze. i doubt my wife will enjoy them in the good one.
That's way too big. Cut them into little nubs like 1/4" at most. I still say the blood worms and black worms though. Mine wont eat trout worms but my Motoro's will eat any of the above and market shrimp-ghost shrimp also.

just tell the wifey it is short term until you can get them eating something else. but imo you will most likely need them they will be put in a container they cant get out of anyway.
plecocaves.com is where i order mine from

ok ill order some. how do u recommend storage?

he has worm keepers also but i use a tuppeware container that latches on all four sides and has an air hole at the top already they seem to do great in there. just you net them out everyday and rinse them off.

ok great. rinse them in cool non-clorinated water right? ill go the tupperware route with some water on the bottom. with a sign in it

DO NOT EAT.. ;)

yep target has them that are pretty short as you dont need a real tall one i say find a place in your fridge you want to put them measure it and buy that size. i use tap water but im not on city water. and you also store them in a little water in the container.

they live longer if you use water from your tanks.they are live animals so to speak and will suffer from the same things fish would suffer from in tap water.
