New Rocks for my Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks All!

Louie,

They'll do their job to pick and dig around, but the substrate is an inch or less in many areas with the rocks touching the aquarium floor. I would be more concerned with an addition of a clumsy Synodontis than the curious mbuna.

Wow, your tank looks wonderful, how big is it? Your fish look great too. Are there just cichlids?

37 gallon, 3 Labidochromis caeruleus & 3 Melanochromis johanni. I keep this thought in mind: "It's a fine tank for today but it will be too small by tomorrow."

37 gallons is still bigger than my 15. My parents won't let me upgrade even though I tell them its too limiting. In one of your pictures, you make the tank look really big/tall. Its the one where you can see all the rocks and the lights above. Again, beautiful tank and fishes.

37 is a good size and it may look more than accommodating, but the tank is fully stocked. 6 total fish with dual filtration, don't wash to push the envelope or their territorial bounds.

Nice setup. I use those red lava rocks in my Tang community tank also.

Yeah, I heard those fish are pretty territorial and aggressive. Did you add the rocks to try and breed them? That's what I heard adding rocks to a Cichlid tank will usually do. And what sort of substrate are you using?
