New Setup... Awesome

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also when the cons pair up they will make life miserable for the jack and the pleco. Why not get some port cichlids or blue acara in there. They are a lot more mild than those crazy cons. Nice tank!

if you get rid of them you should keep a female for sure....very cute cichlid imo.. also what are the dimensions of your 65? i don't think that tank is really big enough for 2 adult JD..

3 feet long, 2 feet high, and 18 inches wide.

Sure. They will start breeding at around 3". Yours is probably at least 7 or 8 months old. You'll want to get a male around the same size. A smaller male might work, or she might just kill him.

Actually it is like 3 years old....

Full grown then, Yeah, you might be able to get away with a smaller male, but I wouldn't go much smaller than 5" without close supervision. A 7-8" male would be better if you can find one. Takes a while to grow them out. My male is averaging around 1" per month. I got a male and female each 2" back in July, and he's about 7" right now. She's a little over 4".

That is a really nice black gravel. Brand? Don't see any of the flaking or white showing through that usually happens on black gravels, even when new out of the bag.

A used tank I bought came with 2.1 Convicts, and 2 oscars. One (oscar) was 8 times the size of the cons, but was being bullied like you wouldn't believe.
