New Shark Pool

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I looked at a couple of sites selling Tenecor Ultraquariums. The prices i saw were not even close to ten thousand! Roughly 1200-1300 gallons and they were already 13,000 14,000 Bucks! Glasscages.com doesnt even have 1000 gallon aquariums listed and their biggest acrylic is already close to 5,000 bucks.

Jabba, you must have struck quite a deal to pay less than 10k.

Best advice I can give is to call them up and negotiate. But yeah, they did give me a hell of a deal. I'll take pics of the whole setup once it arrives (I'm fabricating the stand this weekend).

Havent been doing as much work as i should on the pool. Been real tired lately, with work and poor sleep. But anyway, i fit some pvc today, built the make shift stand that will eventually be hidden behind panelling. Made the proper cuts where necessary.

Ran into a problem with a PVC adapter. Going to have to go to get some bulkheads tomorrow. Home depots supply just isnt cutting it. Ruined a perfectly good trash barrel in the process.

Anyone have suggestions for a skimmer or should i just leave it the way it is?

Also, wanna know what everyone thinks about going skimmerless, and using filter media instead, and a denitrator.

What exactly are you planning on putting in the pool - I would highly advise against going skimmerless.

Perhaps two male atlantic smoothhounds aka smooth dogfish and two california round rays.

Then definitely add a skimmer - an ASM G6 would be your cheapest, best bet - ocean pro aquatics (oceanproaquatics.com) has it for ~$650 shipped. I have a single gray smooth hound in his tank, and he fills his skimmer in a few days all by himself. He's 12" long, and in a 100 gallon temp tank. Skimmer is rated for 225 gallons, and there's a separate canister filter attached, also rated for 200 gallons.

Got some work done today. Almost finished with the wet dry system. Installed a ball valve on the feed into the barrels for easy shut off or flow mod.

Heres some pics.

Right now theres about a foot of water and 200 pounds of sand in the pool. Im worried now about using some larger grain sand. Anyone think its possible that the larger grains could be pushed through the bottom liner by walking on them? Or am i being overly paranoid.
Thanks for checking in too. Im glad people are watching me do this. Im just hoping theres a happy ending HAHA:WHOA:

Only thing I see that I'd change right now is that I'd put a T fitting on the intake tube for your filter pump instead of the looped tube back up.

As for Tenecor cost, they are one of the top companies out there for custom builds, and their prices show it. I've worked with them before. I actually got lucky enough to sit down to a few dinners with the new owners a couple of weeks ago during talks of having them do some work with our aquarium in the near future.

A company I'd suggest looking into for more 'bang for your buck' when it comes to large tanks is Red-E-Wald fiberglass set ups. You can cut acrylic windows into them if you'd like, and they come in a wide range of sizes for almost every application.
